‘OffLimits’ – the organisers and promoters of the largest trail bike ride in New Zealand ‘Tussock Buster’ – now bring you ‘The Waiouru Explorer’!
We have had many requests for an event to enable mountain bikers to share the secrets and beauty of the Army training ground wilderness. ‘The Waiouru Explorer’ will take in some of the most picturesque and off limits scenery of the North Island.

‘OffLimits’ is a charitable trust who’s objectives are to support Military sporting groups and Army welfare. OffLimits is also a very family orientated organisation, the ‘Waiouru Explorer’ is designed with those values in mind. It is a ride not a race…

Numbers will be limited to under 100 entrants so there will be plenty of room on the trails. The trails consist of tracks and some gravel roads.

The basic plan is to set off from the camping area in the military camp proper at around 9am Sunday morning and head to the Moawhanga Lake via a series of trails tracks and roads. The main course in total will be approx. 45 kms long. Consisting of about 30 kms before the lunch stop and 15kms after the lunch stop. Lunch will be at the Moawhanga Lake. We will either take your lunch out for you or your support team will be able to drive out to the lake and meet you there. After lunch a ride back to the main Army camp of around 15kms. All trails will have shortcuts built in to them for those who don’t want to travel the full distance can either plan a shorter ride or utilise a shortcut during the ride if necessary.
