Whanganui Mountain Bike (MTB) Club Open Day, Sunday 5th December 2021

Come out and join the club for an introduction day to the trails at Araheke MTB Park.

There will be guided rides and basic MTB skills sections where you can get familiar with the trails and practice essentials like braking, cornering, assents/descents and body positions.

This day is intended for novice riders of all ages new to the sport who would like to meet other club members, learn from fellow riders and have some fun in a relaxed environment.

  • Time: 10 am – 12 pm
  • Up to 2 hours but able to leave at any time
  • Raincheck on Saturday evening (to be advised by Facebook and email)

The park has 10km of tracks in two separate areas – Wiritoa and Pauri – joined by a short section (300m) of road.  The access turnoff is signposted on State Highway 3, 3km south of the Whanganui River motorway bridge, onto Kaitoke Rd.  It is another 3km to Lake Wiritoa Reserve carpark. There are toilets and a swimming area.

From 2 December at 11.59pm Whanganui District goes into the Red Traffic Light Covid protection status.

Given this, and the need to protect our membership, the WMTB club will be requiring vaccine passes for participation in all club managed events and rides.

The requirement of a vaccine pass allows WMTB club to continue our rides/events while keeping everybody safe.

Also, without the requirement, numbers at any ride/event would need to be capped at 25.

This is a Government public health mandate. The WMTB club committee continues to serve its membership and the community but is committed to compliance and will not enter into debate over this directive while it remains.
